After extensive discussion, analysis, and prayer we have decided to offer 50 Full Shares at a cost of $500 each for the 2012 growing season.
The shares will first be made available for purchase to returning CSA members starting January 1, 2012. On February 1 we will open up to those who joined our mailing list with the hope of purchasing a share in 2012.
If there remain open slots, we will then open shares to the broader public on March 1, 2012. We don’t want to turn people away but the demand appears to be greater than what a smaller farm like ours can supply. Furthermore, we want to branch out and into adding direct sales from a stand. The intent here is to be more inclusive to neighbors and those who pass by the farm.
It has been a dance of discerning how we can touch the most lives, sustain financially, and honor our existing base of supporters. We consider the CSA an important ministry in itself, a real community that gathers and grows together, all the while acknowledging our hope to use these vegetable sales to aid in subsidizing other ministry activities we engage in.
Logistics in a nutshell:
-A total of 50 shares will be offered
–only FULL shares will be offered (you can of course solicit a friend and go in on one together, but you will be responsible for dividing the produce). No working shares.
-Payment must be in full and no reservations can be made without full payment. The cost is $500.
-checks are to made out to Eighth Day Farm, P.O. Box 2151 Holland, MI 49422 (checks help us as PayPal takes a cut)
-there is a PayPal option on our website under “Sign Up Here.”
-The 2012 CSA growing season will begin June 5 and end November 3.
-You can sign up for a Tuesday pick up (4-6pm) or a Saturday pick up (10-noon). Both are scheduled to be at the 709 Pine Ave location.
-returning members can sign up after January 1
-those receiving this notice who were not members in 2011 can sign up starting February 1
-See the website for vegetable and herb offerings for 2012. We are encouraged by the success we’ve seen with plants grown in our compost. We are also no longer planting in a large section at the 146th Street site where we have lost crops the last two years due to flooding. We are already longing for some fresh greens!
