There are always projects in need of volunteers at Eighth Day Farm. We invite people of all abilities and skill levels to spend time volunteering at the farm. We do ask that children under the age of 12 are accompanied by an adult. We do not have the staff to supervise unattended children. We welcome large groups and those interested in earning community service hours, as well.
During the summer, our open volunteer hours* are:
Saturday’s 9-Noon: General Farming
Wednesday’s: General Farming
Tuesday & Fridays’s 9-Noon: Working with Flowers (weeding flower beds, cutting flowers, arranging bouquets for sales and for our Care Flowers initiative)
Tuesday & Friday afternoons: Flower Deliveries for our Care Flowers (taking flowers to residents in local nursing homes and hospice)
If the times listed above do not work for you, just let us know your interests and together we’ll arrange a time and activity that is mutually beneficial.
We are in need of volunteers to make compost pick-ups at several locations throughout Holland and deliver it to the farm. This would require a commitment of about 1 hour 3 times a week and a ride along to learn the routes. We’re also up for splitting this between multiple volunteers to lessen our weekly time commitment.
*Email Josh Banner, bannerj at hope dot edu, ahead of time to let him know when you plan to volunteer. Work locations vary from day to day and he will let you know where they’ll be working.
